ABOUT MICHAEL JOHANSSON

Michael Johansson, a.k.a. “Micke J”, is a Swedish music photographer. He was based in Stockholm for most of his career. He photographed his first band in May 1981 and began working full-time as a music photographer in 1984.
Over the following decades, he worked for publications including the Swedish music magazines OKEJ and Sweden Rock Magazine, photographing Swedish and international artists in studios, on stage and on the road.
His photographs have appeared in thousands of magazines and have been used for LP and CD artwork, books and other music-related publications around the world. He has also contributed photographs, archive material and film footage to music documentaries.

Alongside his work in music photography, Michael has developed a growing interest in nature photography. In the late 1990s he particularly enjoyed photographing the landscapes and wildlife of several US National Parks. Some of this lesser-known part of his archive will be featured here in the future, with fine art prints available.

Michael now lives in Southern France with his wife Paola, who is also a photographer. He spends much of his time scanning and preserving his extensive archive, while continuing to photograph nature. He remains open to selected collaborations, mainly for books and documentaries.
